Our Auntie Mary always knows how to make a household of sickies feel better!

And loved!

March 23, 2011

Daddy needed some peace and quiet to try and get some work done, and I am feeling somewhat better. Elizabeth's been asking to go visit the Agriculture Museum every day since she got better.  Multiple times a day. So when she asked me today if she could go "walking outside to see the animals", I agreed.

Elizabeth was so excited she didn't take a proper nap.  Oops.

We arrived to discover BABY PIGS!  It's true.  Mama had twelve babies around noon today.  Apparently she just popped them out one after the other.  One baby immediately tried to get back in!  By the time we arrived they were all happily nursing.  Elizabeth was fascinated.  Perhaps not as fascinated as her Mommy though.  It's a good thing piglets grow up to be less cute, or I'd never be able to eat pork again.

When the museum closed, I explained (as I do) that the cows had to go to bed. Elizabeth agreed to go home and find Daddy.  But we didn't even get out of the parking lot before Elizabeth suddenly piped up:  "Mommy!  Mommy dear! Mommy!"  "Yes, Elizabeth?" I replied.  "I NEED to see the cows!!!", she said.

Of course, when Auntie Janice asked her what she had seen today, Elizabeth claimed to have seen "AIRPLANES".  Kids.

Elizabeth appears to have completely recovered from her recent bout of sickness. That must mean it's Daddy's turn. What better way to celebrate Spring?  It's a new family tradition!

I was scheduled to look after cousin Erika while little sister went for a follow-up appointment at CHEO. Since I was feeling fine, I thought everything would be fine as long as we didn't bring Erika to our house. BAD idea.

Despite my desire to see baby pigs I decided to avoid the animals (and smells) and took the girls to visit the Aviation museum.  Erika and and Elizabeth had a wonderful time.  I did not.  Shortly after we arrived I started to feel unwell. Luckily Auntie Janice was working and I was able to leave the girls with her while I visited the facilities.  I can now report that of all the places to be taken violently ill, the Aviation Museum is not bad.

Auntie Janice drove poor moaning me home at the end of her shift, complete with large garbage bag "just in case".  Luckily I didn't need it.

The two girls fell asleep in the car on the way home.  Elizabeth didn't notice Erika was missing until saying her prayers at bedtime.  "Hey!" she said.  "Where Erika go?"

I can't resist putting Elizabeth's hair "up".  She doesn't always let me, but asking her if she wants "princess hair" usually works.  Luckily she still thinks my efforts are cute!

March 19, 2011

Apparently March winds are ill winds for us, but so far only Elizabeth is determined to repeat last year's extreme dieting program. Last night she had a popsicle for supper. It brought the only big smile of the day, but we regretted it later.

She did otherwise sleep well so we felt brave enough to let her have some breakfast.  She ate two bites of pancake and then declared she needed a nap.  She slept for two hours, threw up, then changed beds and slept for another four hours.  I discovered that she likes to listen to classical music when she's sick, but nothing with too much violin.

She perked up around 6pm and insisted on going for a walk outside. Everything is melting and our daffodils are starting to poke through the ground!  Elizabeth and I admired bird and raccoon tracks in the mud.  The raccoon tracks were full of little plastic shavings from our green bin...
