Last year we missed out on some of the best days of a very short skating season and this year I vowed to take advantage of as many skating days as possible.

Unfortunately pretty much as soon as it opened the Rideau Canal skateway had to close again due to super mild weather. I'm already regretting not having taken Elizabeth out of school early so that she could skate to music class last Tuesday.

It was cold and getting dark by the time we made it onto the canal this time but we made it!

Creighton was ordained tonight so of course we had to come. All three kids were in attendance despite the latest of the hour. Elizabeth and Matthew were extremely good - sat quietly in the pew and even paid some attention. Matthew was particularly impressed by the bishop. Amelia was a bit fussy especially towards the end but I was assured she did not unduly disrupt things. We were so pleased to be able to participate.

Rachel made a pretty fabulous looking cake for the party afterwards.

It was such a glorious day that we went skating on the canal twice today.

The kids and I skated part way to church. Brendan drove so that we would have the car, then met us at the end. Matthew skated a little ways but I pretty much towed the younger two in the sled while Amelia tried to get off.

After church we went to fetch our first beavertails of the season (on skates of course) while Amelia napped.

I went to my friend Jessie's baby shower! Our church is about to have a little baby boom which is super exciting. I love babies, as long as they aren't puking on me :)

I was even more excited to discover that the canal was open for the season. Of course we had to grab our skates and go for a little skate.

It was Amelia's first time using her skates on the canal and she was super proud.

We had a colouring contest while Lorianne was away. She took one picture home to her family in Emo to colour and we coloured the same one here in Ottawa.

Here are our results :)
