Hi, I'm Mary and welcome to my blog. The best way to get to know me is to come over for dinner - I love cooking, especially for others. Since you're meeting me virtually though, I guess you'll have to settle for checking out the about us page and then reading some of my posts. Some of my favourite recipes are posted on my recipes website - see the "Links" section :)
If you want to fast-track the getting to know you process here's what I wrote when facebook asked me to introduce myself. Now you know that I'm all about efficiency and reuse (or perhaps slightly lazy).
Interests:
Sailing, Amphibians, Quilting, Technology in general, VoIP
Favourite TV Shows:
Hockey Night in Canada, The Amazing Race, So you think you can dance, MythBusters, Holmes on Homes
Favourite Movies:
Hopscotch, LOTR, any of the James Bond flicks
Favourite Books:
The Bible, Count of Monte Cristo, Boom Bust & Echo
Favourite Quotations:
"Hmm, it's Tuesday. Let's try changing the .Net Framework and see if that fixes the problem." [Redacted]
"The fact that you’re not dead yet doesn’t mean that the things you’ve done up until now shouldn’t have, by all that is fair in the universe, already killed you. You might just need a few more data points for the law of averages to catch up, and put a permanent end to your short term thinking." Scott Berkun
"What scandalizes moderns about the church, I think, is not what it believes but simply that it believes. We are perfectly at ease with Christian clergy who deny the divinity of Christ or the resurrection, don druid suits and praise shariah law, or claim they can be at the same time priests and imams. Just as we are happy to give tenure to academics who proclaim that there is no truth, and give large fees to artists who insist that their works do not communicate or uplift and are not meant to. But we are baffled that the Pope is Catholic and if you don't like it you need to find, or found, another church." John Robson
"The question should be, is it worth trying to do, not can it be done." Allard Lowenstein
25 Things about me:
Jesus is the most important person in my life.
I don't have enough faith to be an atheist.
I was born in Canada, but I spent my childhood in Belgium. I experienced severe culture shock when we moved home.
I love sailing, especially if I get to race.
I play the flute, but mostly for my own pleasure.
I can juggle and unicycle at the same time, but I'm sadly out of practice.
I'm a Scrabble fiend.
I can touch my left thumb to my wrist on both sides of my arm (double-jointed).
I broke my collarbone falling out of bed when I was three.
I severed a tendon in my right thumb making cookies a few years ago.
I may be slightly accident prone.
I care way too much about the Ottawa Senators playoff standings.
I can't help ranting a bit when I talk about property taxes or Ottawa municipal politics.
I was one of the last kids in my class to learn to read (actually, I was in the remedial reading group).
As a child I accidentally set fire to my bed while reading under the covers with a lamp.
I like renovating, especially older buildings, but I do get tired of living in a house under construction.
I've been running my own company for more than 10 years.
I'd rather have a filling at the dentist than travel, but I still have a valid passport.
I wish someone would hurry up and invent "glutenaid" (lactaid for celiacs)
I have pumped gas at a gas station less than a dozen times in the last 15 years.
I think flaming greek cheese is super cool.
I married my high school sweetheart in 2001, after dating for nearly 8 years.
He's more than a foot taller than me.
According to more than a year's worth of sophisticated medical tests and some of the most highly regarded fertility specialists in Canada, Brendan and I cannot have children.
I'm the proud mother of Elizabeth Eliana (3 weeks old today)

There are so many cool prizes to be won at this year’s Ultimate Blog Party, but my top three picks would be:
Hi, Congrats on the new baby and thanks for visiting SquigglyTwigs blog earlier. BTW, quilting takes a whole lot longer than sewing clothes...I'm not up for long term tasks, yet. I like to have a completed project in one nap time or less. :) Blessings, Debbie
Very interesting list! I would love to see the unicycling and juggling at the same time. LOL
I was told in 1994 by three different infertility specialists that we would never have any more children (after the first) -- I have since had nine. My doctor was always befuddled by my pregnancy announcements, so I would just smile and say, "It's a God thing. He had other plans."

We had an issue with a spambot that really really wanted us to make chocolate cake with cheddar cheese and onions :)
I race C&C 27s sailboats in the summer, none of them mine. I'm learning to skipper this year.
