Preschool: Matthew edition

Matthew had his first day of preschool today. He was happy to walk to school and when we got there he gave me a big hug goodbye. There were no tears (this is pretty normal) and no clinging to my leg! Seeing as he had been making a bit of a production about me leaving unless I told him I'd wait "outside", I was expecting difficulties but so far so good. It helped that his summer camp was in the same room. At pickup the teachers said he had a good time and commented about how quiet he is (!)

Here's Matthew's take on day 1.

"First I played outside. Then I had to go into the classroom. I didn't get to play in the park and [accusingly] you said I would play in the park." (I reminded him I dropped him off and picked him up at said park) "Oh. But it wasn't a yong enough time, so I didn't count that." We agreed that next time I would come a few minutes later.

"At the classroom I had snack! I got cheese and muffin and cucumber. I 'membered to wash my hands when I was done but none of the other kids did. That's cuz I'm the biggest. And a fire doggy. [Ed Note: I asked that Matthew be required to wash his hands after eating; it's one of our strict house rules in a vain attempt not to kill off Janice, and me, I suppose] Then my teacher read a story. But not my story I picked out. Her story was about dinosaurs. No I been Joking. It been about school. And elephants. No, I be making that up. There was water. And playdough. And painting cept I didn't do painting cuz I was too 'cited about the toys. Then we went outside and you were there."

Apparently play school is not long enough and the toys are fabulous! Not to mention quite the backpack. Hmm, he is quite the joker. Did you ever find out what the story was about? sounds like a great start.
