Expedition to Home Depot

It's the end of an era; for many years we have done quite well without a dishwasher. In fact, I don't really like them that much. First of all, it's not that big of a deal to do the dishes when we do them right away, and if we have a crowd they don't all fit anyway. Said crowd often helps do the dishes. Dishwashers chip the dishes, don't always do a great job and most importantly I find they stink. Something about the smell of a dishwasher just makes me gag.

However, all good things must come to an end and having a dishwasher was something my darling husband identified as a possible improvement to his life. It is true he spends a lot of time washing dishes, and also our schedule has changed so that it's not as easy to wash dishes immediately after we make them. So if our dishes are sitting around anyway, it's better to have them sit in the dishwasher rather than on our counter!

Long story short, we went to Home Depot today to acquire a dishwasher for Brendan and a freezer for me. We're going to try rinsing our dishes before putting them in the dishwasher to reduce the potential for food sitting around in the dishwasher and rotting (stink factor). And we're going to run frequent cleaning cycles. So far it's not too bad.
