While eating breakfast today (and dealing with a host of random household emergencies - sigh) the kids noticed an unusual bird perched on our fence. The rather large bird was very occupied with its biology homework. Daddy managed to get some reasonable close up photos with the good camera and after much googling and staring at endless comparison photos we determined that it appears to be a Cooper's Hawk. Very rare for such a bird to be seen in Ottawa, let alone in the city proper. Also very neat. Just don't look too closely at its breakfast.
