We'd like Elizabeth to learn to swim early or at least become very comfortable in the water, so we enrolled her in swimming lessons with the City of Ottawa.
The first lesson was cancelled due to a "pool fouling" the night before but today's lesson proceeded as scheduled. Although Elizabeth likes going swimming, she usually wants to come out again as soon as she feels chilly. We got into the pool with the help of a Humpty Dumpty song and after we jumped in once, Elizabeth decided she was done. But after a few more Humpty Dumpty jumps followed by some "Zoom Zoom" rocket ship launches into the pool and kicking across the shallow end Elizabeth started having so much fun that she forgot about being cold. We played bubble monsters with the help of the Ollie Otter song, played with ducks and balls during free time, and even dunked our heads all the way under the water. I was worried that she might not have liked this part but when Daddy asked her later she said it was "fun".
I was pretty impressed with Brewer Pool. It's apparently the warmest pool in the city because they do so many lessons and they have fish suspended from the ceiling to help encourage floating on the back. Elizabeth is a bit nervous about going on her back but she was so interested by the fish that she relaxed much more quickly than usual.
