Grandma H periodically sends Elizabeth stories about what Grandma and Grandpa are doing from the perspective of Little Glass Duck. (Duck accidentally went to Portugal instead of coming to live in the cupboard in our dining room.)
The latest story really captured Elizabeth's imagination, since it was about bananas and babies. Elizabeth is obsessed with babies and loves to pretend to be a baby. Recently she's also started to pretend she's the mommy to her dolls. They need a lot of nursing, naps and diaper cream. I get the first two, but we rarely used diaper cream when she was littler so I do not understand the fascination. Daddy taught her that babies need burping after nursing, so we get a lot of <squeaky voice>"Nurse, nurse, nurse, PWEEEASE." <normal voice> "Okay." Pause for a fraction of a section... "Other side?" <squeaky voice> "Other side!" Pats baby. "BURP".
Anyway, Elizabeth was particularly interested in the following part of Grandma's story:
"Just then the baby doll started to cry. 'Oh, dear', said Timna, and she took off her cloth and rocked the baby doll back and forth, back and forth. The baby doll felt better. Timna leaned over, put the baby doll on her back and spread her cloth around her. Then she tied the cloth at the front, so the baby doll wouldn\u2019t fall out."
Elizabeth has two babies, so of course she wanted to wear both of them just like the little girls in the duck story. She was so pleased with her "baby on back". So pleased that she cried when inevitably it came time to put the dollies down.
